Since I practice composting in place I hardly ever turn the pile, just move it over to the next spot.Lisa - the Granola Catholichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09020431743182581746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4853477990546994356.post-43747816633934670562012-03-26T08:37:35.132-05:002012-03-26T08:37:35.132-05:00We have a couple of compost piles that are similar...We have a couple of compost piles that are similar to those in the phot. In the kitchen I keep a bucket (from bulk dishwasher detergent) under the sink with the lid on loosely; we throw all compostable kitchen scraps in there and when it gets full, we carry it out and dump it onto the big pile.

Neither the bucket under the sink or the big compost pile smell bad like many people think they will. My husband takes care of the outdoor compost, adding garden waste to it and turning it occasionally. There is no set schedule, but I'd guess he only turns once a month or so and it all turns out fine.Annie at Haphazard Homesteadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13697469094043846339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4853477990546994356.post-26487511934833834182012-03-25T21:54:59.515-05:002012-03-25T21:54:59.515-05:00Lauren, I would definitely try to compost on the b...Lauren, I would definitely try to compost on the balcony. I used to use 5 gallon food buckets from food service. You can get one with a lid to keep unwanted stuff out of it too (like little ones who like to explore).Lisa - the Granola Catholichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09020431743182581746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4853477990546994356.post-48824538480603833632012-03-25T19:51:15.581-05:002012-03-25T19:51:15.581-05:00Thank you for linking up with the Planet Weidknech...Thank you for linking up with the Planet Weidknecht Weekend Hop!Lisa Weidknechthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06564377503507171734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4853477990546994356.post-62689180144044736962012-03-25T19:32:04.737-05:002012-03-25T19:32:04.737-05:00What a smart idea to put the compost pile in the g...What a smart idea to put the compost pile in the garden bed! I never thought about that, but it would definitely save on some shoveling later. I keep thinking we should start composting in our apartment, but I really have no idea where to put another bin. We do save yard/food waste for the outside yard waste cart pickup, but I'd love to do worm composting, maybe on our teensy balcony… :)Lauren Waynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07500733577920040395noreply@blogger.com
