10 Easy Ways to Make Summer Memories with Your Family Before Summer is Over

IMG_4845

Well Summer is more than half over. For many of us back to school is just around the corner. But as my oldest says, “Summer is not over yet, and we still have weekends.” That gives us plenty of time to make summer memories. Memories don’t have to be expensive or elaborate. Just memorable.

  1. Get wet– Go to the beach, lake, creek, river or water park. Pack a picnic and enjoy each other.
  2. Stay Up late –after dark Catch fireflies in a jar. Watch the Perseid Meteor Shower.
  3. Go to the Drive In – Pack a picnic and enjoy the night. No Drive in  in your area. Set up a projector screen outside and have a neighborhood “drive in”
  4. Schedule One on One Date Nights with your kids. Dad can take his daughters out for a date night. Mom’s go out on a Date with your sons. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Go out for a picnic or slushes at the park.
  5. Go Camping- go camping in the backyard or at a state park. If the weather is really bad, you can set the tent up in the house. Kids of all ages will love having a tent to play in.
  6. Make a late night trip – Take the kids out for some after dark fun. Go out to watch stars, or get an ice cream in their pj’s.
  7. Go on vacation in your own city for a day – We did this last year and it was a blast. We started with breakfast in a dinner. Visited some new shopping areas. Went to the zoo, splash pad. Lunch at a Taco Truck then back downtown for a moveable feast at three separate restaurants. We left the house at 7am and got home about 11pm. Just like you would on vacation away from home.
  8. Host a Block Party  - This is a great way to meet your neighbors. Unfortunately for us we live out in the boonies and not a neighborhood.
  9. Have a Family Reunion or Go to One – Family Reunions don’t happen often enough for us. But growing up we used to have a yearly get together with all the aunts and uncles and cousins on my father’s side of the family. It was usually scheduled around The 4th of July, so that everyone could make it.
  10. Go to an Outside Performance– Many cities and towns give outside free performances in the summer, concerts, Shakespeare in the Park. You may think your kids are not old enough for these but you will be surprised. In an outside setting where kids do not have to sit still they can enjoy the music. Best part it is free.

Great list! Thanks for sharing. My favorite is a water park.
